Name:ADAT
Description:Archivio Digitale Antichi Testi
Abstract:ExperimentThis work covers some aspects of the preservation and the fruition of cultural heritages through the newest Grid technology. Nowadays, the improvement of communication network with large bandwidth and high performance such as Grid Infrastructures allows the realization of software platform oriented to the archiving and fruition of cultural contents of notable importance historical and artistic. Through the web, for example, historical documents (extremely fragile), can be published to the world in order to make them accessible in every moment without altering their integrity. It is also possible to think about solutions like \ On Demand Services\ also based on GRID technology.

Application: ADAT project represents a Process Model built on Methodologies, Technologies, Procedures, Hardware and Software. This model aims to preserve and deliver the true value of the antique manuscript towards its own virtual representation. Research objectives are: Virtual Reconstruction, experimentations for removing mechanical lacks (cracks, scratches, torns) and chemical lacks (fox blotches, cellulose oxidation, water blotches); Recognition of manuscripts characters with ICR (Intelligent Character Recognition) techniques; Integration of restoration algorithms with advanced parallel computation models (towards genetic paradigm adoption); Adaptation of these high CPU cost algorithms on GRID Computing infrastructure; Automation and Massive Elaboration of digital objects and bulk provisioning procedures of the Storage Systems. ADAT marries GRID Computational Paradigm since it covers both virtual restoration and archiving aspects. Grid File Services cover preservation and archiving of a large amount of cultural contents and Metadata Services support the integration and adaptation of standard metadata inside the GRID infrastructure to enhance fast and intelligent research of document spread on the decentralized systems. High speed network helps in the field of information publishing and retrieving capa
