Name:CardioGrid Portal (GISELA)
Description:Laboratory for Complex Systems (LSC) Cardiology Portal
Abstract:The project consists in the construction of a web portal allowing physicians and researchers access to a medical data base for handling patient information and their medical files, in particular, electrocardiograms. CardioGrid has capabilities for processing electrocardiograms with a set of medical signal processing algorithms and storing and visualizing the results online.
Figure 2
An electrocardiogram in general does not consume excessive computer power. However, when the number of patients is large and each patient study takes long time, computing time takes a predominant role in the good functioning of the web portal. This is the reason of proposing a solution based on Grid technology that has the necessary scalability needed by the project. LSC and UCM developed Open Source software tools based on Grid that allow research groups to integrate as nodes of the new Grid development. Once connected to the CardioGrid, researchers can access and share experimental data, tools for data analysis and computational models related to the functioning of the hearth of healthy individuals and those with cardiac problems. For privacy protection, no data contain patient information from which it came. Furthermore, CardioGrid will allow a natural integration with another project from LSC, RFP 2006-MSR Digital Inclusion in Health and Higher Education, consisting in a smart cell phone with a portable medical signal with mobile technology.
